Archive for December, 2009

Well, Christmas 2009 is over, and I think that our kids enjoyed everything that they received. Lucas wants every “Star Wars” toy known to man, though, so I’m sure that he would have been happy with even more! :) Santa was very good to me. (I’m so glad that I didn’t receive an electronic cigarette or something funny like that!) LOL! :) I received new yarn from Lucas, which I used to make a pretty hat. I also got a neat “Easy Sweaters” knitting book, some bath goodies (love Bath & Body Works’ Twilight Woods!), some Yankee Candles (Almond Cookie smells amazing!), and lots of other neat gifts. Thank you, everyone! :)

Back in 2002/2003 when we were building our house, we wanted to choose some special glass tile for our bathtub/shower area. In the end, though, we were short on time (and money!) and just opted for the builder’s standard board that he installed (can’t remember what it’s called). It’s supposed to be waterproof, but there were some tiny holes in it ~ so now, we have some water seeping through the board. And it looks awful. I can’t wait until we’re able to put some tile up there around our bathtub/shower. Maybe we can choose some special tiles to accent the bathroom, like a fleur de lis (we have a blue toile theme in there).

My parents made such a good point when they were here visiting over Christmas. It seems like around the holidays, everyone says, “Eat as much as you want! Indulge! Enjoy rich foods during the holiday season!” But once Christmas is over, the diet ads begin: thermogenic fat burners, Special K cereal, diet goals beginning on 1/1/01, etc. Funny how the message changes immediately! And who doesn’t have a weight-loss goal for the new year? I know that I do. I need to get rid of all this weight that I put on because of the medicine that I was taking before. :(

I struggled with acne *so* much when I was in fifth grade. It was horrible. I searched for the best acne treatment out there, and I tried everything ~ but a combination of Neutrogena acne soap (it was a brown color) and Cleararsil seemed to work pretty well. I knew people who had it worse, though, so thank goodness mine wasn’t that horrible. I’ve found that if I sit at my computer with my hand resting on my chin, I tend to break out there! (I call it “Bejeweled Blitz Breakout,” LOL! :) I hate pimples. And now, my skin is kind of a combination ~ dry in some spots, oily in others.

I feel like I’m pretty experienced with writing resumes ~ especially after taking a resume-writing class before my company merged with another and I lost my job back in January 2005. I need to add a few things to my resume, though, and spruce it up. I haven’t done that in a while, and a resume is a “living document.” It’s not like I’m looking for a job or anything, but it’s always good to have a complete, updated resume on hand. How about you ~ is your resume up to date?

For a while, my husband was looking for a part-time job to bring in a little extra cash. I was searching for something, too, like maybe working at our local yarn store. No openings, however. :( I should have consulted a service job search, but actually my freelancing is bringing in a pretty good flow of extra money for us. I am *so* happy about that. Will anyone out there be looking for a new job in the new year?

Something that I cannot *wait* to work on in the new year is sprucing up my Etsy shop. Mainly, I need to work on order fulfillment ~ packaging my sold items in a pretty way, along with coordinating ribbon and business cards. I need to decide on a color scheme for that ~ maybe a river theme, since we live by the Hudson River (so tissue paper in hues of blue, my favorite). Or since it’s called “Summerset Soaps,” maybe a summery, bright theme? I don’t know. But I *really* do need to work on the appearance of my shop and the way I mail things out. Fun project!

Whew ~ taking a few moments from cleaning and wrapping presents to post a blog entry. Sometimes when I’m so busy like this, I feel like calling for “online backup” ~ someone to guest blog for me! :) Our living room is very clean, and so is our dining room. The kitchen needs some work ~ mainly, scrubbing the floor and doing the dishes (all of them). Our bonus room, where we’ll open presents on Christmas morning, is basically clean except for the floor. Oh, and our downstairs bathroom needs a *good* cleaning. I think I’ll tackle that next. It’s pretty messy when … um, how do I put this delicately? When you have two children who are relatively new at the whole bathroom thing? :)

I am *so* curious about those kitchen sink water filters that flavor regular tap water (like raspberry, cherry, etc.). Have you ever tried one of those? I think it would be way cool to turn on your kitchen sink and be able to pour yourself a glass of flavored water. We received a water filtering pitcher as a bridal shower gift way back in April 2000, and believe it or not, we just had to retire it the other day because it was no longer working. That thing lasted a *long* time! Thank you, Mandy! :)

I’m pretty clueless about the whole life insurance thing, but I know that it’s important. And if I were to ever start my own bath and body business someday (beyond what I have in my Etsy shop), I’d need business insurance, too. The whole idea of running a business, though, totally intimidates me. I know that they have insurance specifically for crafters, and I’d need to check into that. If you own your own crafting business, what type of insurance do you use?
