New Microwave Bacon CookerI receive new products to review from time to time, and I was really intrigued to try out this microwave bacon cooker by Bacon Cleanly Cooked. Hey ~ it provided an excuse to buy some yummy bacon at the grocery store the other day! :) Holy cow ~ I couldn’t believe how expensive bacon was, though. I hadn’t bought any in quite a while ~ prices have gone up!

So here’s the deal. Nuked BaconYou wash everything first with soap and water, just to get rid of any debris that might be left over from the manufacturing process and from shipping. (I thought that it washed up quite nicely.) Then, you load one slice of bacon on each of the “vanes” (the device holds six slices), place the bacon down inside the white cooking container, and seal the lid by clamping down two black “arms.” The instructions recommended nuking the bacon for 30 seconds at a time until you figure out what cooking length is best for your microwave. (Since we like crispy bacon, it took about two and a half minutes for ours.) Most of the grease drains into the bottom of the container, and then you can dispose of it easily and keep the bacon cooker in the fridge for the next time that you want to use it.

Bacon-Avocado Melt with Red OnionGood idea, I think ~ although I was skeptical at first because we usually just cook our bacon in a skillet or bake it in the oven. (When we do eat bacon, that is ~ we don’t really fix it very often.) I thought that the device was kind of messy and inconvenient at first, actually. It took a while to load the bacon (and I had two screaming children hanging onto me, LOL!). The instruction sheet was so lengthy ~ all you do is insert the bacon and then attach the lid! I didn’t see the need for so many detailed instructions! But the second time that I used it, it was much easier and went more quickly. The bacon that resulted was actually pretty crispy and yummy. I like how the grease drained off and made it easy for emptying.

I made bacon-avocado melts with red onion for dinner last night (delicious!). But overall, I just don’t know whether we cook enough bacon to make it worthwhile to have this device sitting in our kitchen pantry (or refrigerator). I’m tempted to mail it to a friend who said that she’d like to try it (she eats more bacon than we do). I would recommend this product to others, but I just wasn’t ecstatic about it. The bacon was delicious, though (when is bacon not?!?), and it was fun to try!

  • I love bacon. Heart disease is in my family so I try not to eat it. I tried the turkey bacon and hated it! We have a thing that goes in the microwave. It works really well. It is so hard for me to cook because the kids swarm the kitchen. My kitchen is so small. I don’t let people in when I’m cooking.

How do you get products to review?

  • The price of bacon has gone up?! Wow, just shows how often I buy it. Sounds like an interesting gadget, but no one likely to enter my already cramped kitchen.

That sandwich looks SO good. I’m craving avocado and cheddar cheese now. Yum!

  • Great review! I had many of the same thoughts you did. I love bacon and usually stock up when it is B1G1. It must be Bacon Week because tonight I am fixing BBQ Bacon and Chicken pizza, LOL! I usually cook mine in the microwave.

  • Put me on the list of for wanting to know about becoming a product tester.

The bacon cooker looks great, but I’d wonder if it would fit in my small-ish nuker. Micro cooking bacon is far better than frying it as far as getting rid of the extra grease.
